Baaba is one of many celebrities to sign an open letter on behalf of Oxfam addresses to the heads of the G8. The letter concerns their policy towards foreign aid. AFRICA TALKS CIMATE

In December 2009, Baaba attended the Climate Change summit in Copenhagen as the climate change ambassador for the Africa Talks Climate initiative - a ground-breaking research and communication initiative that explores the views of African citizens on climate change.
While he was there he introduced "The Greatest Youth Debate on Earth", a special edition of the BBC World Service's flagship interactive news programme World Have Your Say, featuring a panel discussion with young people from around the world.

Baaba was performing at the Island50 show last night (alongside Yusuf Islam - formerly Cat Stevens) - when he was joined onstage by surprise special guest stars U2. The band played an acoustic set with Baaba Maal and guitarist Barry Reynolds. They performed One which seguayed into the classic Marley track One Love.

Africa Express, the critically acclaimed live musical project put together by Damon Albarn, played a fantastic show at Kokos on Wednesday night. Baaba Maal opened the show and performed alongside Damon, The Magic Numbers, Flea from The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Hipnotic Brass Ensemble, Darra J, Scratch from The Roots and Sam Duckworth from Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly amongst countless other musicians and performers. The whole thing was broadcast live by the BBC Electric Proms on Radio1 and Digital TV.

BAABA WINS THE GOLDEN DJEMBE AWARD
Baaba Maal and the acoustic section of his orchestra, Dande Lenol, received "the Golden Djembé Award for African Integration", this weekend in Conakry. Baaba Maal received his award from the Guinean Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure, Aly Gilbert Ifono during the 9th edition of "the Golden Djembé Award Ceremony", a ceremony which sees the best Guinean musicians presented with awards, every year. Fallou Dieng (2007) and Pape Malick Samb AKA Pape Thiopett (2006) have also won the Golden Djembé Award during their career.
